Transcription

Transcription of existing media is a service frequently provided by betmar languages. Types of projects include transcriptions of interview tapes including depositions, police interviews etc. Occasionally clients wish to have a video or audio tape translated from another language into English.

Producing a transcription can be understood differently. Transcribing can be understood to mean recording in writing that which is on the tape. This means that if the tape is in Spanish, the written record will be in Spanish.
Another expectation of the transcription process is to listen to the original media, translate what is being spoken into English, and providing a written record of the translation.

In most cases, we recommend that a written record of the spoken word and the translation of that record be provided. This is accomplished by creating a script of the spoken word where, segment by segment the original languages is recorded followed immediately by the translation where one or the other is italicized. Factors which effect the costs for transcription services include:

  • the length of the tape in minutes and the number of spoken words involved
  • the difficulty level of the content
  • the time involved to hear and distinguish the original media.
